Standards and Expectations
Grantsville Track & Field Standards and Expectations
General Expectations
● Have a positive attitude
● “We” before “me”
● Be committed to the success of the team and the process of being the best student
athlete you can be
● Eat healthy, hydrate regularly, and get plenty of sleep
● Follow the assigned workout schedule
● Do not do anything to embarrass yourself, your family, your team, or your school
● Complete RegisterMyAthlete before attending first practice (Feb 24)
● Pay $40 participation fee in a timely manner after it is posted to your account
● Report any injuries to the head coaches, your event coaches, and the athletic trainer
● Follow all TCSD and GHS policies and guidelines
● Have fun!
Equipment
● Wear appropriate apparel for practice. Be prepared for any weather, we rarely move
inside for practice
● Have a good pair of running shoes
● Have a school issued uniform for competition. Uniforms issued by the school from
previous years and from cross country may be used. Uniform tops may be purchased for
$40 and you use your own black shorts (must be solid black. If there is a logo, it must be
smaller than 2”X 2”
● Follow UHSAA uniform rules at meets
● Specialty shoes (i.e. spikes, throwing shoes) are helpful but not required
Practice
● Meet in Portable 6 to begin practice each day
● Practice will begin promptly at 3:15 every day. Be on time and ready to go. Being late to
practice will affect your eligibility to compete in meets.
● Athletes must have attended, and participated fully, in at least 85% of practices up to the
date of a particular meet to be eligible to attend that meet.
● Our roster is final on March 14th. No athletes will be added after this date. Athletes
who join late must attend practice for one week before competing.
● Athletes must attend the entire workout for their event in order to be counted as
attending practice
● Athletes may not miss practice in order to practice with another group or to do an
individual workout
● Injured athletes are expected to attend practice to perform rehab assigned by the
athletic trainer/doctors, support teammates, help with practice, etc.
● Athletes must clear any absences well ahead of time with the head coaches
● Excusal from practice will be at the discretion of the head coaches. Absences for school
activities can be excused but must be communicated with the head coaches well in
advance of the absence.
● Athletes participating in another spring sport that wish to participate in track need to
talk to the head coaches. We will work with your other coach to determine
requirements and participation at practices.
Academic Expectations
● Maintain good grades during the season
● Attend classes daily. Students must attend all classes on the day of a meet. If they do not
attend school, even if it is excused, they may not participate in the meet that day. The
only exceptions are doctors/dental appointments, funerals, family emergencies, etc.
Parents must notify the Attendance Office or Athletic Director prior to missing school for
one of the exceptions listed.
● In order to be academically eligible, athletes must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and not
have more than one F in Term 3. A grade of Incomplete counts as an F until a grade is
posted. F’s in concurrent enrollment classes count as four F’s.
Meets
● Carry a team attitude at all times
● Encourage and cheer for teammates
● Be willing to try new events
● Do multiple events to best help the team succeed
● Stay at the meet until the end to support teammates
● Per district policy 5001, all athletes must ride the team bus/van to meets
● Athletes may be checked out from a meet by a parent or guardian, and only a parent or
guardian, by physically signing them out in person with a coach. Please bring your parent
to the team camp AFTER the meet has concluded to sign out.
● Athletes may not independently attend meets not on the schedule
Meet Participation
